A Change of Command ceremony is performed when an outgoing Commander of a military unit gives his or her Command to the new
incoming Commander. Military units undergo a Change of Command every couple of years and this can be a simple Ceremony
performed in a GYM or it can be a real live nightmare if it is for General Officer complete with units on a parade field in formation, the Army
Band, local news coverage, catering and many more tasks to make it a success. Change of Command ceremonies are a joint effort
between the Command group and the S3 Shop. For those of you who don't know, the S3 shop is your unit's training and operations
section. I said earlier that a Change of Command is a joint effort but as Noncommissioned Officers we all know who really makes it
happen. One thing to note for you junior NCOs and Soldiers is that a Change of Command or COC is between Officers and a Change of
Responsibility or COR is between Enlisted Soldiers by this I don't mean that you will have a Change of Responsibility when you get a new
Squad Leader, a Change of Responsibility is for the First Sergeant and the Sergeant Major. On this page you will find the instructions for
performing the actual Change of Command ceremony, fell free to download and print for your rehearsals.
